I am with the person that commented above never let a dealer finance you. I have a 2009 Lexus and going to the dealer for financing was a horrible idea. I could have brought about 5 cars with what I am paying now. Try credit unions they are more reasonable than banks.

If your name is on the title and his is as well, I'm sorry to inform you, you CANNOT take your car back if he doesn't want to give it to you, even with the police. The best way is to:
1) sue him in the court
2) re-finance the vehicle sole to your name
3) if the title states "OR", get possession of the car (somehow) and sell the vehicle. You have right to sell (or trade) your car while under financing even without his consent or signature.
4) if the title states "AND", you basically need his consent AND signature to sell the car
The is however, some way of getting your car back. You can talk to repo guys who are willing to tow your car and once you're in possession, he CANNOT do anything to get that car back from you. The issue here is, the repo guys will NOT (99% of them) repo the car without the court order.
Once you have taken possession of your car, notify police that the vehicle is in your possession !!
Good luck! You gonna need it.

Without proof of employment I doubt a financing option would be approved. Your only really option is to pay up front.

When you owe money on a car you have to have full coverage. Your lender mandates that you to insure the car. If you own the car, you may choose not to insure it, to have only liability insurance. Carrying only liability insurance costs less than carrying full coverage insurance. May or may not be wise, depending on the book value of your car.

Having full coverage car insurance is a must. Like most auto loans, a car refinance loan is secured by the vehicle. If the car is stolen, involved in an accident or otherwise damaged then you would be required to repay the loan without use of the vehicle or its market value. Lenders know that repayment under such circumstances is usually too great a burden for the borrower and will have a difficult time being repaid on the loan. Requiring insurance protects both the lender and the consumer.
